The Filmmaker

Raised in Madrid and New York City, Damian is an independent filmmaker, photographer, Co-Founder of Trespa Films and Founder of Vermillion Pictures. INDEPENDENTLY BLUE, which he wrote and directed is currently in post-production. Damian began a professional career in film as an Apprentice Editor working for Emmy winning Editor Stuart Pappé as well as Academy Award winning Editors Dan Hanley and Mike Hill. Damian's first 16mm short THE DEVIL, produced in cooperation with the School of Visual Arts and depicting a futuristic adaptation of a Guy De Maupassant short story, was an official selection at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. Damian went on to work for NYU TISCH Film Acting Program at Stonestreet Studios as a cameraman, editor and sound mixer on several short films which screened at festivals such as Santa Cruz Film Festival, Back East Picture Show, and Great Lakes International Film Festival. He wrote and directed BLOW AWAY inspired by Ernest Hemingway's "Three Day Blow" which went on to win the Audience Award at the legendary Two Boots Pioneer Theater. Damian then turned to writing and directing a longer film. He worked closely with a group of actors from the Atlantic Theater Company and produced INDEPENDENTLY BLUE. Damian continues to collaborate with other filmmakers with similar artistic philosophies. He collaborated as a Cinematographer on shorts like FOREVER YOURS, produced at Center for Advanced Digital Applications and featured by New York Magazine. In 2010 Damian spearheaded the Cinema 21 project on MUBI, producing and directing a series of short documentary conversations with influential 20th century filmmakers. Damian currently works out of his Long Island City studio where he produces films and large format photography with the goal of "illuminating mankind by illuminating things, while making some honest money to pay for electricity".
